Art Is My Life

Artist Statement

I am a colourist and a lover of line, flowers and the land. They naturally show up in my work because I am drawn to them. I am drawn to what is healing and uplifting in my life. I hold the same values as Henri Matisse when he said “What I dream of is an art of balance, of purity and serenity devoid of troubling or depressing subject matter - a soothing, calming influence on the mind, rather like a good armchair which provides relaxation from physical fatigue. ” When art can do that, it has nourished the human spirit and a person can go on. He got in trouble from that quote as it was often misinterpreted. We need places to stop and rest and renew ourselves. My soul has received that from following an artist life. I can share the graces I have received through the paintings I create and sell, and the classes I teach.
