Pretti Good
Acrylic on wood
76 x 76cm
$2250
Ok so this one has a story. I painted it over the winter of 2026, so just a few months ago from when I’m writing this. I had been glued to the news and ice protests for months and then the shootings in Minneapolis happened. I wanted to make a painting in response to what I was seeing and feeling but I didn’t want to perpetuate the violence in my own work so I let the Spirit of the protesters fuel my art. Everyone who is standing up for the vulnerable and risking their lives will have a seat at the high table on the other side. I know that. And so even through my grief and rage and fear I tapped into the sweet spirit of love and community. This is the result.
I don’t often paint figures, in fact never! So I was very pleased with this. I remember about halfway through the process my brother came to visit and saw the unfinished painting and told me it looked disturbing. So obviously I had more work to do in tapping into that hopeful sweet spirit. But in the end I think I got there! Thanks Pete for saving it!
This painting would be beautiful in so may spaces -a large front entrance area, a living room, even a bedroom as it carries a lot of fertility energy I think. It also might be nice in a healing clinic or a place where people need to feel uplifted. It’s an eye catcher so where ever you put it, make sure you balance the space out with other colourful things so that people can move their eyes around the room! Also I think if you were wanting to be more social or socially responsible this would be a good painting to have in your space.
